Four EU countries pledge to boost installed offshore wind power for green hydrogen preparation

According to foreign media reports: Recently, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Denmark committed to building at least 150 GW of installed offshore wind power capacity in the North Sea by 2050, to build a “green power plant” for Europe.

But the task is challenging because the European wind power supply chain is unprofitable. And the long project approval times are slowing down the rate of wind power installations.

Around 150GW of wind power is enough to power 230 million European households. But the goal of the project is to use green energy to produce hydrogen and green fuel for heavy industry and transportation. They are not easily electrified directly, said Simon Kollerup, Danish Minister of Commerce.

The declaration was officially signed on Wednesday at the Offshore Wind Summit in Denmark. It was attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The European Commission also unveiled a €210 billion European plan to end dependence on Russian fossil fuels. And accelerate the transition to green energy by 2027.

The European Commission aims to increase the installed capacity of offshore wind power from approximately 16GW currently installed to 300GW by 2050.

Denmark’s Climate and Energy Minister Dan Jorgensen said: The cost of installing 150GW of offshore wind will be hundreds of billions of dollars. While mainly provided by private investment with small state subsidies.

The EU’s offshore wind capacity will increase nearly tenfold. And this commitment will hopefully lead to a shift away from the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
